As a local Realtor in San Diego, I’m always keeping an eye on what’s happening in our real estate market. Recently, there was a big development in the news that I thought was worth sharing.
According to San Diego Union-Tribune, a San Diego entrepreneur, Neil Senturia, has won a $20 million settlement from a lawsuit filed against Invitation Homes, one of the nation’s largest corporate landlords. Senturia’s company, Blackbird Special Project LLC, filed the lawsuit under the California False Claims Act, alleging that Invitation Homes systematically avoided securing required building permits when renovating newly acquired properties. This practice, the lawsuit claimed, cost dozens of cities thousands of dollars in uncollected permitting fees.
This case is a reminder that even large corporations are not above the law. It’s also a testament to the power of individuals to hold powerful entities accountable. If you’re considering buying or selling a home in San Diego, it’s important to work with a Realtor who is knowledgeable about local regulations and can help you navigate the complexities of the real estate market.
